we have fallen behind on articles and reporting in the last few weeks... technical difficulties some censoring and other issues beyond our control. will be refocusing on corruption and is the ctu responsible for the violence we are seeing in the streets of Chicago today... with their anti-police ideology and Marxist view of governance and how that jives in an urban multicultural setting like Chicago ...

DEMILITARIZING CHICAGO PUIBLIC SCHOOLS

What the “Demilitarize CPS Campaign” aims to do:

High school students are a significant focus for recruiters engaging them with their military service message. The Demilitarize CPS Campaign wants to turn this picture around and ensure that all students receive an education and a future to meet their abilities, aspirations, and dreams. We believe CPS deserves more investment to support our children and their futures, not military intervention.

We aim to build a campaign focused on three primary goals:

Coalition building (educators, organizers, youth, faith community )

Building alternatives (developing anti-imperialist political education, ideating peace alternatives)

Anti-imperialist orientation (the solution must be local, but our broader analysis must draw the connections between domestic and international violence and the military-industrial complex)

Teachers for Social Justice endorse the following position on the JROTC program along with our comrades from the Black Alliance for Peace:

The Black Alliance for Peace - Chicago opposes the recruitment of youth in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs into Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps programs (JROTC). The military is using our children as fodder for their permanent war agenda and selling them false dreams of a better life if they sign over their lives and body for the U.S. empire. However, the primary cause of their suffering and the suffering of millions across the globe is the U.S./EU/NATO Axis of Domination that props up the white supremacist, colonial/capitalist project.

Locally, millions of public money is spent to support the JROTC program. The costs to CPS are extraordinarily difficult to find. The FY2021 proposed budget for JROTC is $15,794,711. That's a lot of money to be spent when Chicago schools are closing, understaffed, and under-resourced.

The Department of Defense seeks to enlist more youth by bombarding them with imperialist propaganda that glorifies war and the military wherever they go, whether it is at sporting events, in military-funded movies, or in online war-action games. U.S. Representative Jim Bank recently said, “Student loan forgiveness undermines one of our military's greatest recruitment tools.” What Banks admitted is something we have always known: that a primary military recruitment tactic is to prey upon the economic insecurities of poor and working-class children and families. Currently, the Armed Forces seek to increase their ranks as youth volunteering has dwindled. Military recruitment officers promise everything from full college tuition and job training to cash bonuses -- but the dangers of enlistment are either undersold if discussed at all. Recruiters are relentless; it's their job. Their tactics are underhanded and dishonest, targeting the poor and disaffected. Apart from the apparent danger, the U.S. armed forces pose to our youth, these programs have been rampant with sexual misconduct. JROTC ‘teachers’ have engaged in inappropriate behavior with students with little to no repercussion.
