Substance back 'up' after a week off the grid, and then technical difficulties caused by, of all things, a meteor shower and the Northern Lights...

The 'Northern Lights' as seen looking towards the Upper Peninsula of Michigan from out in Lake Michigan (where Substance spent a week happily). Huffington Post photo.By August 16, 2016, Substance was back on the Internet, after a week "off the grid" and an additional two days off the Internet, apparently because of the recent meteor shower and the Northern Lights (honest). The planned vacation of two of our editors and family in the Beaver Island archepelego was expected to result in some Internet lapses, but there was also a surprising disruption of our main computer -- not caused by Russian hackers but apparently because of the wonders of mid-August up here. By August 18, we expect to have our stories up, first focusing on the Chicago Board of Education's strange budget and then on the huge cuts that have hit most of Chicago's real public schools. Thanks for your patience.
