CORE begins convention

The CORE convention, organized by the Caucus of Rank and File Educators of the Chicago Teachers Union, began its convention on September 27, 2013 at Chicago's Whitney Young High School. The meeting began at six p.m. with a panel discussion. The discussion, moderated by Kurt Hilgendorf, featured brief remarks by Karen Lewis, Jackson Potter, Steven Ashby, Bonita Robinson, Michelle Gunderson, and Sarah Chambers.

CORE members stand in solidarity with Mexico teachers in a message that will be sent to Mexico. Substance photo by Kati Gilson.Following the panel, a lengthy discussion was held about the future work of CORE.

Following the discussion, the convention assembled everyone there for a photograph to be sent to teachers in Mexico, who are facing fierce police repression because of their strikes and protests against corporate reform, Mexico style.
