CPS schedules hearings on school 'turnaround,' closings and other 2012 Hit List actions... Protests begin with vigil December 13 at 6 p.m. and continue on December 14 at Board of Education meeting

In accordance with the Facilities Law, CPS has scheduled hearings in January and February on the schools that are on the 2012 Hit List to be subjected to turnaround or closed in other ways. The ten schools facing turnaround are those that are generating the most interest from the public, the CTU, and activists.

The Chicago Teachers Union and a coalition of community groups plans protests for this week before and during the monthly meeting of the Chicago Board of Education. An "All-City/All-Union Vigil" at the Board of Ed for those affected by School Closings will begin on Tuesday December 13, 2011 at 125 S Clark, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Some members of the group plan to continue the vigil throughout the night and line up to sign-in to speak at the Board of Education at 4:00 a.m. the following morning. The Board meets Wednesday December 14, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sign in for speakers is from 8:00 to 9:00.
