Chicago Teachers Union conspicuously absent -- again

Although we didn’t attend the rally in Union Park prior to the main October 27 anti-war march, I was able to photograph virtually every block of the march itself either along the line of march or from the “L” platform at Wells and Jackson. I had previously photographed the massive immigrant rights marches along the same streets and from the same “L”. Once again, I can say for certain that the Chicago Teachers Union was conspicuously absent from the march. This was more obvious because there were hundreds of teachers marching, and hundreds of students.

How much bigger would the march have been if the largest union in Illinois had organized school by school contingents, perhaps with marching bands? CTU members were everywhere on October 27. Only their union leaders were truant.
