SUBSCRIPT: Advertising at District

... Everyone knows you need money to run a blog or Web site, BUT — HOOTERS!? Yes, that is Hooters there on the ad side when you open District We're even more sorry at Thanksgiving approaches that we hadn't given more thought to utilizing the power of the Internet (and Internet ads) to improve the outreach of Substance (and our "bottom line") before now. A visit to District, the Tribune's CPS blog, greeted us one morning just before Thanksgiving with a "Girls of Hooters Calendar" (and tour, with calendar signings). While we puzzled over the relationship between Hooters, CPS, and the District blog, it was good to know that beginning December 1, bloggers can purchase their calendars at various Chicago area Hooters establishments and get them autographed. Nice idea for the holidays gifting season. From reading the ad, we also learn that fans in other cities (Tampa; New York City) can get their calendars autographed, too. It looks like we'll be open here at to more suggestions about how we can increase our revenue via the wonderful world of Internet Advertising. This sort of reminds us of the guys who would tell you, with a straight face, that they were "into" Playboy because of the prose content, or that they "read" Penthouse because it paid for some very good investigative reporting. The problem is: What should Substance do to do on line ads? We thought we had to draw the line with the "University of Phoenix". Now it gets even more exotic. Drear and gentle reader, we can only end with... Suggestions, anyone?... 
