SUBSTANCE ANNUAL SECOND CITY BENEFIT. November 10 at Second City comedy theater in Chicago. Tickets $35. Write for tickets now

There are still a limited number of tickets available for the 30h annual Substance benefit at the world famous Second City Comedy theater at 1616 N. Wells St. in Chicago. The benefit will be held on the evening of November 10, 2009. Everyone over 18 is welcome to join us for this laughfest.

Second City will be performing its usual show for the benefit of this news service and the Substance print newspaper.

Substance and substancenews.net readers have an unprecedented opportunity to join us for a night of laughs and good will, plus benefiting the work of Substance.

Tickets are $35 in advance and must be ordered (snail mail) from Substance. Tickets are mailed to you within one day after our receiving your order.

Please enclose your check or money order payable to Substance in the amount of $35 for each ticket and indicate clearly the address and person to which your tickets will be mailed. Your ticket order should include ZIP code and phone number so that we can contact you if you win one of the door prizes we will be awarding that night.

This year's Second City benefit will be held on Tuesday night, November 10, 2009, at Second City. Show time is 8:00, with the doors opening at 7:00. Wednesday, November 11, is the Veterans Day holiday for Chicago public school teachers.

The Second City benefit has been a regular event for Substance since the founding of Substance 35 years ago, and it is generally scheduled during the week of Veterans Day.

The benefit this year is on a Tuesday night, November 10, with the doors opening at 7:00 p.m. and show time at 8:00 p.m. All seats are on a first come, first served basis. Second City does not have numbered or reserved seating.

If you have enjoyed American comedy over the past half century and are a fan of Saturday Nigh Live or Comedy Central, you can spend an evening at the place that gave birth to much of the best comedy of the last half century, Chicago's world famous Second City Comedy Theater.

Second City is located at 1616 N. Wells St. in Chicago's Old Town community, with convenient parking half of block to the west of the theater.

This advertisement will run in the Number 1 position at www.substancenews.net until Veterans Day, November 11, 2009, or until all the available tickets for the Substance Second City benefit are sold out.

As with all Substance activities, we protect the identity of our sources. In more than 30 years or reporting the news, Substance has never burned a source. We continue that tradition with respect to those who join us at Second City for our annual benefit. Who comes to Second City, if they want, leaves their memory at Second City. We do not expect Ron Huberman, Arne Duncan, Paul Vallas or Richard M. Daley to join us on November 10, 2009, for the benefit of Substance.

I look forward to being there.

The night is always fun, but it's also an honor to be in the presence of people of integrity who love public education and understand the value of keeping it public. I look forward to seeing teachers and educators and their families on November 10th. I know it will be a great, inspirational night.
