Dear Colleagues,

Our highest priority is ensuring the health and safety of our students and staff. In support of that goal, we announced in August that all Chicago Board of Education employees are required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 by October 15, 2021. Effective today, we are amending our mandate to more closely align with the Governor's Executive Order and Executive Order Extension, which requires vaccination or weekly testing.

This means that CPS employees and vendor staff who do not report proof of full vaccination to the district by October 15 must consent to weekly testing. This includes staff who are not vaccinated, staff who have started the vaccination process but are not yet fully vaccinated, and staff who received a vaccination exemption from the district.

Staff members who have not provided proof of being fully vaccinated or have not signed up for testing will be ineligible to work for CPS until they are in compliance with the Board’s COVID-19 vaccination requirement for staff. If you are ineligible to work, you will not be paid. Further, failing to provide proof of being fully vaccinated or failing to sign up for and submit to testing will subject you to discipline, up to and including termination. If you have attempted to access and upload information to the site, but have experienced technical difficulties, please refer to this document for tips.

Action Items for Staff

You are fully vaccinated (i.e., you completed both doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine, or a single dose of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine)

If you have already provided the district with your vaccination status using our vaccination compliance site, no further action is required.

If you have not provided the district with your vaccination status, please do so by October 15 using our vaccination compliance site and selecting the “I am fully vaccinated” option.

You started the vaccination process but are not yet fully vaccinated

Provide the district with your vaccination information by October 15 using our vaccination compliance site and choosing the “I am partially vaccinated” option.

Once you receive your second dose, please return to the vaccination compliance site and add your second dose information by selecting the “I am fully vaccinated” option. Be on the lookout for a follow-up email with more information on testing.

You received a vaccination exemption from the district

Be on the lookout for a follow-up email with more information on testing.

You are not vaccinated

Confirm with the district by October 15 that you are not vaccinated using the vaccination compliance site and selecting the “I am not vaccinated” option. Be on the lookout for a follow-up email with more information on testing.

Thank you for doing your part to help us keep each other, our students, and our school communities healthy and safe. We will continue work with our employees who are still in the midst of getting vaccinated or have hesitancy around vaccination. In the meantime, to learn more about why the COVID-19 vaccine is so important, please click on this link to hear stories from your neighbors.
