Chicago Teachers Union donated more than $90,000 to the Jay Travis election campaign... No record of most of those donations ever being submitted to the House of Delegates for approval...

Despite pouring money and other resources into the candidacy of Jay Travis (above right), the Chicago Teachers Union lost the recent election to incumbent Christian Mitchell (above left). Photo combination by DNA Info Chicago.According to the most recent contributions listings from the Illinois elections board, the Chicago Teachers Union PAC (Political Action Committee) gave at least $90,000 to the election campaign of Jay Travis. Travis lost to incumbent Christian Mitchell in the March 15, 2016 voting.

A full listing of all campaign contributions from the CTU and related political action committees and funds has not yet been provided to the CTU House of Delegates, but a preliminary review of state records shows that the CTU gave more to the Travis campaign than to any other during the recent election fights. The Travis campaign also received money from the Illinois Federation of Teachers and the American Federation of Teachers.

Historically, the CTU has provided the House of Delegates and the union's members with a complete listing of all contributions from the union's PAC funds. That has not been the case during the past four or five years. Although the union's leaders said that they would bring contributions above $5,000 to the House of Delegates for approval, that, too, has yet to happen.

The general election will be held on November 8, 2016.
