Boardwatch August 27, 2008: Board fails to provide math teacher for eighth grader, then holds back the child when she "fails" math

Parent Lynette Hudson (Horace Mann School) told the August 27, 2008, Chicago Board of Education meeting that one of her two daughters failed math and is being retained in eighth grade after the Board failed to provide her with a math teacher (the teacher for math was certified in social studies) and a math book she could take home and study from.

Ms. Hudson noted that the child’s twin sister did well in math because in her class, she had a certified math teacher and a book for homework. 
