Boardwatch August 27, 2008: Ousted Aspira charter school teachers charges cover up of strip search, doctoring records

Aspira charter school teacher Meg Sullivan (pictured) told the August 27 Board meeting that she was fired by Aspira after she tried to blow the whistle on illegal and unethical activities at the Aspira Charter School. According to Sullivan, the New Schools office (under Josh Edelman, above right) was informed about the problems Sullivan had witnessed. Instead of doing something to stop the problems, Edelman’s staff apparently informed Aspira, which fired Sullivan.

Unable to keep the story from being told at the public participation session of the Board meeting, the Board referred the issue to its Law Department. As of the beginning of school, Sullivan had not been returned to a teaching job. 
