Arena campaign office opens in 45th Ward
The campaign office for the re-election of 45th Ward Alderman John Arena will be opening this Sunday, December 7, 2014. "Last month, the CTU House of Delegates endorsed Alderman John Arena of the 45th Ward for re-election," CTU organizer Martin Ritter wrote in an email. "John is a progressive Democrat who opposes charter school expansion and pension cuts. He supports the Elected School Board referendum and stood with us during the strike of 2012."
Alderman John Arena speaking recently.John Arena has stood with the union at more events and during more Board of Education meetings than any member of the City Council except Bob Fioretti and Nick Sposato. Fiorett is running for mayor, and Sposato is running for alderman of the 38th Ward (he was originally elected in the 36th).
"Rahm Emanuel has put up an UNO-affiliated candidate to force John out of office, so now it even more urgent to get involved in his campaign," Ritter continued. "We cannot have a Rauner/Rahm/UNO ally representing the 45th Ward. We need canvassers and block captains..."
Citizens will be able to meet Ald. Arena, his campaign staff, supporters, friends and allies, then hit the streets and the phones to talk to voters about the election Feb. 24. CTU members are asked to "Wear Red!"
