More Than A Score schedules December meeting to organize the 2015 Opt Out of PARCC

With the PARCC tests more controversial than ever, and the Opt Out movement in Chicago growing larger than ever, "More Than A Score" will host a meeting to organize the 2015 Opt Out against the PARCC testing in Chicago: When? Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at 6:00pm - 7:30pm. Where? Douglass Branch Library, 3353 W. 13th Street, Chicago, IL 60623

While Saucedo teacher Sarah Chambers described the absurdity of the REACH tests, Zerlina Smith held up a sign showing the "readability levels" of some of the REACH materials during the November 19, 2014 meeting of the Chicago Board of Education. Later, after Chambers had left, the Board members showed their confusion about what Chambers and Smith had been exposing, ultimately referring the discussion to the misnamed "Office of Diverse Learners Supports" (OODLES), which should be called Special Education but not under the current Chicago Public Schools regime. Substance photo by David Vance. If our public servants won't serve the public by parking the PARCC, we're going to have to do it ourselves through test refusal/opt out/boycott. Around 2,000 students at 90+ Chicago Public Schools opted out of the ISAT last year. PARCC testing is scheduled to begin in March. Help us start planning to make an even bigger statement this year. We will also be organizing support for the IL General Assembly to pass a parental rights opt out bill. STANDARDIZED TESTING HAS TAKEN OVER OUR SCHOOLS. LETS WORK TOGETHER TO TAKE THEM BACK.
