Another Rahm Emanuel first! Cowardly members of Emanuel's school board put off the March Board meeting until April after announcement of massive rally, march and other protests... More angry than ever, Chicagoans prepare for April 3 Board of Education meeting

In Chicago, absolute power means you can turn one month into another. In March 2013, Rahm Emanuel turned March into April and for the first time in more than 150 years the school board went more than a month without a meeting.

In a satiric comment on the claim by Chicago's mayor and his appointed school board that Chicago needs to close 53 real public schools in order to "right size" the district, protesters challenged the mayor and his policies at the March 27, 2013 rally, march, and civil disobedience. Substance photo by Sean Ahern.Angrier than ever after several provocative comments by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel about the massive opposition to the 2013 Hit List that includes 53 of Chicago's real public schools to be closed, Chicago teachers, parents, and community leaders began their preparations for the "March" meeting of the Chicago Board of Education almost as soon as their Easter and Passover events were over -- and in some cases as part of faith-based organizing against the Emanuel dictatorship. Thousands of people across Chicago were noting that for the first time in history Chicago passed a full month without a meeting of its school board. Why? Because the members of the Board of Eduction (all Emanuel appointees) voted at their February meeting to turn "March" into "April" -- rescheduling the March meeting until April 3 after planning began for the massive March 27 rally, march and civil disobedience against the latest plutocrats' attacks on the city's real public schools.
