Rally to support Evergreen Park teachers October 13 at 89th and Kedzie

There will be a rally to support striking Evergreen Park teachers on Saturday, October 13, 2012. According to a press release distributed by the Illinois Federation of teachers: HELP STOP UNION-BUSTING IN EVERGREEN PARK. JOIN THE EPFT SOLIDARITY RALLY. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13!

The teachers and paraprofessionals in the Evergreen Park Federation of Teachers (EPFT) council of Local 943 are in the second week of a difficult strike against a hostile school board. Please support your union brothers and sisters and help them speak out for a fair contract! Join us for:

EPFT Solidarity Rally, Saturday, October 13, 1 p.m., Yukich Field , (8900 S. Kedzie, Evergreen Park, Ill.)

EPFT members, parents and community supporters will demonstrate their unity and send a strong message to the District 124 school board that threats and union-busting tactics will not be tolerated in Evergreen Park - or anywhere!

The 206 teachers and paraprofessionals in the south Cook County suburb were forced to strike after several months of negotiations did not produce a settlement. Negotiations continue to be unproductive and the school board has publicly threatened not to make up lost days in an effort to "punish" EPFT members for the strike.

Despite the District's massive funding reserve and the union's repeated efforts to compromise on many outstanding issues, the school board is clearly intent on fighting the union rather than working with teachers and school staff to get kids back in school where they belong.

Please attend the EPFT Solidarity Rally this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Evergreen Park to stand with your union brothers and sisters and speak out against union-busting!

If you are unable to attend, please support EPFT members in their struggle by making a donation to their strike fund, sending messages of support or joining them on the picket lines. For details about ways to show your solidarity, see the IFT Web site.
