State Rep announces LSC hearings in April 2008

Teachers for Social Justice send out the following press release on March 22, 2008:

Saturday, April 12, there will be a city-wide hearing about Local School Councils sponsored by Elementary and Secondary Education Committee of the Illinois State Legislature and the Kenwood Oakland Community Organization.

State Representative Esther Golar (6th District) filed a resolution with the Illinois Assembly which reads (synopsis from the state webpage):

Supports the empowerment of Local School Councils as effective local, publicly-elected decision-making bodies in the city of Chicago and the sponsorship of subject-matter hearings on the needs of Local School Councils to ensure their continued success.

She will be at the hearing April 12, and this is an important time to come and have your voice be heard! These hearings are the culmination of many groups and individuals, and TSJ WILL be there, testifying. It’s really important for other teachers (and parents, community members, etc.) to make sure that we are heard. In fact...contact your local state assembly and senate members, and ask/demand/insist that they attend as well, to hear the voices of the people.
