Substance website faced another cyberattack on night of June 12 - 13, 2010...
The SubstanceNews website, www.substancenews.net, was faced with another cyberattack on the night of June 12 - June 13, 2010, but had cleaned up the mess by 8:00 a.m. on June 13. Visitors going to www.substancenews.net were greeted with a screen full of what used to be called ASCII glop and were unable to reach the news on this site. Because Substance's e-mail systems are independent of the website, Substance staff members were able to begin reaching the editor's desk by midnight with descriptions of the attack. Throughout the night, the attack, which effectively eliminated all traffic from the site, continued as Substance technicians tried to solve the problem. By 8:00 a.m. the attack was over, and visitors were able to access SubstanceNews without incident.
Those who are reading this might think about saving one or two of the Substance e-mail addresses (Csubstance@aol.com or Gnschmidt@aol.com) and contacting us when you notice any problems at the site. SubstanceNews is on the air "24/7." Any problems you encounter at the site are not of our making. This is the third time SubstanceNews has been interfered with since April 2010.
