STRIKE! Oakland strike to begin April 29... Teachers, parents and students plan huge downtown rally on first day of strike

The Oakland Education Association (OEA) members spent the weekend of April 24 and 25 canvassing the community and building support for the strike the union is planning to begin on Thursday, April 29.

One of the leaflets that the Oakland Education Association is using to promote the rally scheduled for noon on the opening day of their strike. Earlier in the month, the union postponed the district wide strike until Thursday, April 29th. The plans now call for picket lines to be held at all public schools during the morning hours, from 6am to 11 am, and 2pm until 4pm.

On the first day of the strike, April 29, from 12 to 2pm there will be a rally for all teachers, parents, students, and the community at Frank Ogawa Plaza in Oakland.

Teachers are asking supporters to call Superintendent Tony Smith at (510) 879-8200 to let him know you want a fair contract for Oakland teachers — maintain smaller class sizes, raise teacher salaries, and continue the adult education program!
