Dear Colleagues,

The health and safety of Chicago Public Schools students and staff is our top priority. The district continues to update health protocols to align with the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). On August 31, CDPH released updated travel guidance urging those who are unvaccinated to delay travel until fully vaccinated, and for all Chicago residents to avoid travel to areas with high numbers of COVID-19 cases. This includes unvaccinated staff who may be traveling for professional development. Any travel authorizations for unvaccinated staff will no longer be approved under current CDPH guidance. Any previous travel authorizations for unvaccinated staff will be rescinded.

Staff who must travel (e.g., funerals) must follow the district’s self screener instructions. It is the individual responsibility of staff to follow and adhere to the city and state’s travel guidance, including quarantining if unvaccinated. Staff who are unable to return to work per the self-administered health screener are required to use benefit time. Please review the Pay and Benefits Guidance for SY21-22 | ALL STAFF for more details.

As a reminder, all fully vaccinated staff must provide proof of full vaccination by October 15. Full vaccination is defined as at least two weeks after your second shot of a two-shot vaccination course, or at least two weeks after a one-shot vaccination course. Please use the vaccination compliance site to submit your proof to the district. You will be asked to provide information about the vaccination you received, as well as a copy or photograph of your completed vaccination card or immunization record. If you do not have your vaccination card or immunization record, please reference this resource for various ways you can obtain your immunization record.

Thank you for doing your part to help us keep each other, our students, and our school communities healthy and safe. Sincerely,

Matt Lyons Chief Talent Officer Chicago Public Schools Dr. Kenneth L. Fox
