TWINKIES, THE NEW SCAB SNACK: Union busting billionaire brags about his 'efficiencies' while preparing to put snack foods, including Twinkies and Ding Dongs, back on the market after breaking union contracts and reneging on union pensions

When they return to grocery and other store shelves, the "new" Hostess Twinkies will become as much a scab symbol of union busting and plutocratic greed as Wal-Mart, Sam's Clubs, and Rahm Emanuel's Chicago "school reform" and its leaders like current CPS CEO Barbara Byrd Bennett. But readers of Substance don't have to believe this reporter, who will ensure that bringing a Twinkie, Ding Dong or Ho Ho into our home will be as big an offense as shopping at Wal-Mart or singing the "Waiting for Superman" or "Won't Back Down" at supper prayers.

But don't believe me. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the new owner of Twinkies and its fellow products is as proud of his ability to break the company's unions using bankruptcy law as Rahm is of his ability to cut cut cut from Chicago's real public schools while his school board voted to expand the city's charter schools and a supine CPS Inspector General is forced to look away at the various scams being done, under "legal" cover, at CPS in 2013.

On July 8, 2013, The Wall Street Journal published two articles on the new "Hostess Brands," which is promising to get Twinkies back on the shelves as soon as TV can begin running endless re-runs of "Zombieland" (a Twinkies advertisement as a Zombie film). One article praised the new owners; the other reported on what was done to the workers.

Even before the latest predation of neoliberal monopoly capitalism, the makers of Twinkies had utilized some corporate tricks to tweak their profits. The Twinkies pictured with this article for example were in a 15 ounce package. Over recent years, corporate managements had decided that the all powerful "consumer" could no longer be allowed to purchase products in real weights, pints, quarters and gallons; ounces and pounds. Instead of a one pound package of Twinkies, the "choice" for the consumer was the 15 ounce package!
