Chicago Public Schools "Chief Executive Officer" Forrest Claypool (above left during the Board's January 27, 2016 meeting) managed to reduce the number of public meetings of the Board during 2016. Whether the ploy was legal or not, it was allowed when Claypool simply cancelled the November 2016 Board meeting. Substance photo by David Vance.The Chicago Board of Education under "Chief Executive Officer" Forrest Claypool and President Frank Clark successfully continued their attack on public participation in public events by refusing to even hold a meeting of the Board during the entire month of November 2016. Although not required by law, Board Policy for more than 50 years (that far back, to the knowledge of this reporter) has been that the Board holds a meeting at least once a month year round. But just as Claypool has gotten away with refusing to hold press conferences (choosing instead to have his minions speak through email), so now the Board has also gotten away with refusing to hold Board meetings. Neither of the city's daily newspapers noticed the problem as November 2016 turned into December 2016.
The next meeting of the Chicago Board of Education will be held on December 7, 2016, as usual at the Board's expensive downtown headquarters at the old Sears building at Madison and Dearborn.
