Loyola University kills 'Labor Express' as Loyola University President is given seat on the Chicago Board of Education by Rahm Emanuel...

April 26, 2015 was the last "Labor Express" broadcast on WLUW-FM. This was Chicagos only English-language labor-oriented radio show, for 11 years at WLUW, and before that, since the early 90s, at other venues. But Chicagos Loyola University, which owns the station, had suddenly decided to end community-oriented talk shows. Labor Express Radio will return to the web and Chicagos radio airwaves Labor Day Weekend, at another venue.

Last Labor Express Broadcast at WLUW

Chicago - CAN TV Channel 19

Thursday, July 30, 9:30 pm

Friday, July 31, 4:30 pm Thursday, Aug. 6, 9:30 pm

Friday, Aug. 7, 4:30 pm

Labor Beat is now sharing selected scenes from that last broadcast, with Jerry Mead-Lucero, the current host, and with special guest Wayne Heimbach, who was the founding host of Labor Express back in the 90s.

Jerry and Wayne discuss WLUW managements decision, the history of the show, while also covering the previous weeks current news. There was the citywide Fight For 15 movement, which included its linking up with adjunct faculty at Loyola University. Underpaid and exploited college professors are beginning to identify with underpaid fast food workers, who joined their protest rally and march on campus.

Labor Express Radio will return. Host Jerry Mead-Lucero plans a return date for the Labor Day weekend, September 5th - 7th, 2015. More specific details will be released in August. Labor Express will definitely have a podcast presence with a weekly 60 minute program available through a new Labor Express Radio website and the Labor Beat TV website at ( www.laborbeat.org). Labor Beat is Labor Expresss sister show on cable-tv. Labor Express will also likely broadcast weekly from a new radio station launching this Summer on Chicagos south side.

Jerry will release more information on this development in the coming months as more details become available. If all goes well, Labor Express Radio will be available to terrestrial radio listeners on Chicagos south side starting next September and via the internet to anyone, anywhere in the world. I am currently also exploring possible north side Chicago radio stations who might be interested in picking up the program. Can also be viewed at: https://youtu.be/r0XgpPUB01I

Guests are Mark Meinster (International Rep. for U.E., talking about the Republic Windows occupation); Toussaint Losier, Chicago Anti-Eviction Campaign; Michael Kozlowsicz, IWW, discussing organizing Jimmy John's; Claudio Gaete, Whittier Parents Struggle.
