MEDIA WATCH: TRIBUNE getting it right about Rahm's lies over the school closings -- and the 'longer school day'.... Before you know it, we'll also revisit Rahm's paid protesters on behalf of closing 'What did you say this school was called'?...
To listen to Chicago's mayor talk about the past four years, an out-of-town visitor might think that Chicago's mayor since 2011 was some guy named Joe Bluffwell or Sam Storyteller. After all, we now know that Chicago's Mayor, Rahm Emanuel, has a "plan" (sort of) to solve all those nasty financial problems that the guy who was mayor from May 2011 until today failed to solve (and in several cases, such as increasing debt or in putting in fees that rip off poor and working class people, made worse).
Just as the former ballerina who earned by the sweat of his brow $18 million via "relationship banking" during three years on Wall Street is just another guy who needs some "love" from the ladies who turn down his sheets in the morning (but not the Dominique Strauss-Kahn kind of "love," mind you; Rahm's a family man all the way), so the Rahm Emanuel of 2015 is not the Rahm Emanuel of 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 who provide his Wall Street buddies with hundreds of millions of dollars in bond profits etc., etc., etc.
And, of course, the recent downgrading of the credit ratings of Chicago and Chicago Public Schools by Moody's, Standard and Poor's, and Fitch was done because Chicago might get Mayor Chuy Garcia -- not because of anything Mayor Rahm Emanuel has actually done. Rahm's team just keeps trying to re-run the script of "Chicagoland", the docudrama about Chicago's Great Mayor Rahm Emanuel that was withdrawn from circulation almost as soon as the laughing began over Rahm's carefully staged scenes with his little Black buddies. Hollywood may get away with "Waiting for Superman" (which included a White House visit arranged by Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel before he returned "home" to become Mayor Rahm Emanuel) and its even more limp "Won't Back Down"... but even at its worst Chicago has a tendency to follow a bit more materialistic script (as I noted recently speaking to the March 25, 2015 meeting of the Board of Education on "Dialectical Materialism").
Now that Chuy Garcia has proved himself by "winning" the second Great Debate against Rahm, even the most suburban of editors are allowing some of their reporters to actually go back through the "news" from the last four years, excavate the words of Rahm Emanuel that Rahm's trying to throw out from the 2015 scripts, and publish something closer to the truth. And even the sodden syllables from Congressman Bobby Rush about the fact that (in Rush's opinion) Chuy is not Harold Washington (even though they both have serious mustaches) aren't pulling up Rahm's smiles. And when caught off guard as he was recently glad handing at a Target store, Rahm reverts to the nasty person those of us who covered his news conferences for years knew him to be....
