ALDERMANIC RACES: 33rd Ward race heating up... Meegan gets endorsements from United Working Families and Cook County College Teachers Union, plans events all week

Tim Meegan, the Roosevelt High School history teacher running for alderman of the 33rd Ward against Deb Mell, announced on January 22, 2015 that his candidacy has received the endorsements of the Cook County College Teachers Union (Local 1600 AFT) and United Working Families. Meegan's campaign ran the following press release:

United Working Families, Cook County College Teachers Add to Growing Support

More good news to share this week! Two more labor organizations have jumped in to support the campaign as we head into the final month before the election. This Thursday, we picked up the endorsement of United Working Families, an independent political organization bringing together grassroots organizations and working people to support progressive candidates and hold elected officials accountable to the interests of our communities. Also this week, the Cook County College Teachers Union, AFT Local 1600, added their name to a growing list of labor endorsements. CCCTU represents more than 5,000 members across Cook County, including faculty members, professional employees, and adjuncts.

From teachers to nurses to public employees, working people are responding to the campaign that stands for their issues, not the issues of the mayor and big business. Here are four ways that you can help us in the final few weeks:

Display a yard or window sign to show your support

Share our campaign with your friends and neighbors

Join us for a Saturday morning ward canvass

Donate to keep us going strong

Thanks to our friends, new and old, who continue to keep us strong and growing.

When Tim Meegan is elected to the Chicago City Council from the 33rd Ward he will supposedly be eligible to speak at the beginning of meetings of the Chicago Board of Education -- ending a series of times when Board President David Vitale ordered Meegan to stop speaking and Board security to forcibly remove Meegan from the Board's podium.
