LETTERS: UNO gets millions while schools are starved

[Editor's Note. The following letter was sent to the Chicago Tribune on February 5, 2013]

Dear Editor:

Let me understand this. There's no money for public schools; so they will be closed. There's no money for teachers on $20,000 a year pensions. There's no money for mental health, more police, medical services for children or to keep bad people in jail. But there is $98 million for Uno charter schools? Why? And if there's money left over, they keep it and ask for more? why? Why isn't this sent back to the State? Can't the State use the 10 or15 million to pay some of its bills to social welfare groups that have to close because the State has no money? Who are the legislators who voted for this? What committee recommended it? Why is giving money to Uno a priority? The State of Illinois, leader Madigan, the priorities are wrong.
