SECOND CITY PARTY ON FEBRUARY TENTH FOR CORE... CTU election to be held May 17 in all schools and for all groups in the nation's third largest K-12 teacher union... CORE candidates to have night of fun and fundraising at Second City on February 10
The current officers of the Chicago Teachers Union and the 40 other CORE candidates in the upcoming CTU election will be celebrating the 2013 election with a fundraiser at Chicago's world famous Second City comedy club on Sunday, February 10. Tickets, which are $50 per person, will help defray the election expenses of the leaders who have helped bring the CTU out of the corruption and doldrums of the majority of the years of the early 2000s. The election, which will be held on May 17, will focus local and national attention on the CTU again, since the other caucuses -- especially PACT and the UPC -- are joining forces against CORE and the national right wing, including Rush Limbaugh, has been critical of Karen Lewis and the union's leadership.

ON January 28, at the largest CORE meeting in recent history, CORE members nominated a full slate of candidates. The incumbent officers -- Karen Lewis (President), Jesse Sharkey (Vice President), Michael Brunson (Recording Secretary) and Kristine Mayle (Financial Secretary) -- are running for a second term. In addition to veteran union leaders who have been serving on the union's 40-member executive board, a group of new leaders have joined the CORE slate.
