[ Mandated Vaccines for Athletes ] Chicago Public Schools Sports Administration

A message from CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS (8/16/2021 4:59 PM)

Dear Parents and Families,

We are excited to safely welcome students back to school five days a week starting August 30, 2021! As we look ahead to a safe semester, we are reaching out to provide an update about health and safety protocols that align with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidance for keeping students and staff safe at school and during participation in high-risk activities such as sports.

To ensure COVID-19 cases are prevented and identified quickly among our student athletes, starting September 1, 2021, all student athletes in grades 5-12 will be required to either submit proof of their COVID-19 vaccination (if they are eligible) or participate in weekly COVID-19 testing during their sports season. Any child who is fully vaccinated will be exempted from the weekly COVID-19 testing requirement to participate in sports. Through vaccinations and regular testing, we can prevent the spread of COVID-19 among our student athletes while allowing them to participate in the activities they so dearly love.

The district will be sharing additional detailed information about COVID-19 testing and proof of vaccination for extracurricular sports in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we encourage all eligible students, staff, and families to get vaccinated to protect themselves and their community against COVID-19. You can find more information on where to get vaccinated at a CPS location by visiting www.cps.edu/vaccinations. You can also visit https://www.vaccines.gov/ for more information, text your zip code to 438829, or call 1-312-746-4835 to find other COVID-19 vaccine locations near you.

Thank you for your support and partnership in keeping our students safe and healthy during the upcoming school year.

Sincerely,

Kenneth L. Fox, MD

Atentamente,

Kenneth L. Fox, MD
