.... looks like they went after William F. McKinley statue in McKinley Park to tear it down saw this on my morning bike ride through the park ... (Update) Someone just sent me the link to an article just posted by the Sun-Times and comments off of Facebook

He was also an expansionist, imperialist, and assimilationist. During his time, he colonized Puerto Rico, The Philippines,and other territories around the world. People aren’t fond of colonization, imperialism, or American “Manifest Destiny.”
I’m a sorry. It’s one thing to tear down Christopher Columbus... I strongly disagree with tearing down presidential statues and monuments.
I saw it early this morning when I was driving down Archer. There was graffiti saying F**k America....with America spelled incorrectly from what I could read from the street
There’s also been talk of changing Mt McKinley’s name back to its former name that was given to it by the indigenous population

A statue of former president William McKinley was vandalized Wednesday morning at McKinley Park on the Southwest Side.
About 4 a.m., someone threw a rope around the statue in the 3700 block of South Archer Avenue, according to Chicago police. The rope was attached to a car in an attempt to bring down the statue, police said.
The statue was also spray-painted with graffiti, police said.
McKinley, president from 1897 to 1901, joins a list of once revered U.S. figures who are now criticized for advancing white supremacy or being silent about attacks on Black Americans and Indigenous people.
Earlier this year, vandals targeted a McKinley monument in Buffalo, New York.

McKinley Park
Thanks for this article, John. Things I didn't know. I'm so glad you've taken on Substance as its editor. Re McKinly Park, I have such memories of this park. Taking walks with my parents, later my dad while he was struggling with dementia. I had friends who lived on the other side of the park from where my brother lived. I would accompany them sometime when they would take their child to play there. Anyway, thanks for this memory of one of the parks in my life.
