Dr. Kim Scipes on how the CIO can help us in our organizing today
In order to help deepen current organizing efforts in Chicago and beyond, Open University of the Left (OUL) invited long-time political activist and professor of sociology at Purdue University Northwest Dr. Kim Scipes to speak on CIO labor organizing in Chicago during its years of greatest strength (1933-1955).
In his talk, he compares the CIO to what activist Jane McAlevey, a current organizer, is now proposing. Kim also speaks specifically about current community work in Michigan City, Indiana. He presented information on Oct, 13, 2018, at at the Lincoln Park branch of the Chicago Public Library at 1150 W. Fullerton Ave.

Professor Scipes at his best during the long ago NED protest in Chicago
We saw professor Scipes at his best during the NED (National Endowment for Democracy) protests a long time ago as a speaker, etc. during the protests we had here in Chicago when NED was in town. As you all know NED is at it again, though has it ever gone away? That is, the meddling in the affairs of other nations. More recently it has been mentioned again, and again, along with USAID and other such entities that have been involved in a failed coup attempt in Centro America. More precisely around the violence in Nicaragua. While portraying to be peaceful protests, since the end of April 2018 NED has openly supported the opposition movement there that has included taking up arms, instigating upheaval in one of the most peaceful countries in Latin America, via the Venezuelan model.
