Chicago Metro Retirees briefed on legislative agenda...
The Chicago Metro Retirees met June 26, 2017, to discuss the June 17th Intergen Retreat. According to everyone, the retreat was a success. I personally can attest that attendance was great since I tried to sign up at the last moment and found that all spaces were filled. Attendees mentioned that workshops such as "Fight For 15" and "LaSalle Street Tax" were quite interesting.
A member of SOAR, Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees, reported that SB 1296 has been introduced in Springfield and was still in the House and needed to go to the Senate. SB 1296 deals with a safe working environment.
McArthur Diggs talked about a 12-week program in Evanston that teaches people about the construction business. The participants will learn how to read blueprints and gain skills needed in the construction business. Diggs stated, “The whole nature of construction is changing. Construction workers cannot be in a 21st century economic society doing 20th century foundation and industrial methods. It is essential to workers to know mathematics for every job. New jobs of the future will require that workers have continued education.“
Health Care is an ongoing concern: Please ask people in these states to call their Republican Senators and ask them to vote against the Senate Health Care Bill, which many are calling "Trumpcare".
