Education sorority give award to Lotty Blumenthal... Chicago union activist gets awards after nearly a half century of work on vocational education and women's rights...

On July 23, 2016, Phi Delta Kappa (PDK). a professional association of educators dedicated to "Service, Research and Leadership," honored CTU member Carlene (Lotty) Blumenthal (this reporter) at a luncheon. Blumenthal received two awards. She was honored with International Certificate of Recognition and the Chicago Chapter's Leadership and Service Award. Blumenthal has served on between one and four committees each year since 1969. She is currently on two -- Women's Rights and PAVE (Practical Arts and Vocational Education).

The awards were presented by Chicago Chapter President Louverta Hurt and Vice Presidents Mrs. Trueannie Oadams and Curtis Smith, former of Leif Ericson School. Seated at the Honorees table were Malissa Tatman of Harlen, Shaina Brown of Marshall , Steve Schlessinger of CVS, Janette Padilla of Chopin, and nieces Julieta and Flo Mercado.

The guest speaker was Nigerian Ms Bolaji Dania, who came to the U.S. A. for an education, then taught in New York and Chicago schools. When she returned to teach in Nigeria, she went into business, creating Quick Line Farms, a fish farm. She now has school groups visit to learn about agriculture and small business ownership. Just a Hello from someone years ago.

It's funny, you'll always be 'Miss Blumenthal' to me. You were one of my teachers back in 1968-1969 at Prosser Vocational. I've thought of you often over the years and I'm glad to see that you are obviously happy doing what you're doing.
