Labor Beat video highlights April 1 one-day strike...

A new video by Labor Beat -- "April 1 Chicago One Day Strike Rally' -- is now available on You Tube: On YouTube at: https://youtu.be/ThTKOcR652E. The video Highlights excerpts from speeches at the April 1, 2016 giant rally at the Thompson Center (State of Illinois Building) in Chicago's Loop. This event capped the day-long teachers strike and coordinated city-wide actions from Fight For 15, transit workers, Nabisco workers, BYP 100, faculty and staff from Chicago State University, Northeaster Illinois University, City Colleges of Chicago, to name a few.

Featured speakers are Johnae Strong, BYP 100/member Chicago Teachers Union; Veronica Morris-Moore, Fearlessly Leading by the Youth; Lakeisha Collins, SEIU HCII; Nidalis Burgos, Chicago Students Union; Ken Franklin, President of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 308; Irene Robinson, hunger strike at Dyett HS & KOCO parent; Adrian Alvarez, Fight For 15 & McDonald's worker; Charles Preston, student at Chicago State University; Karen Lewis, President of Chicago Teachers Union; Page May, Assata's Daughters.

Karen Lewis told the crowd that the billionaires running the state--and the government--are controlling the rules to the game. "Why can't these people just pay their fair share? Why would that hurt them? What kind of sick Ayn Rand fantasy is that?"

Veronica Morris-Moore made one of the day's most important points: "We aren't just protesting to protest. And we aren't protesting--we are organizing. We are organizing a revolution and we will win." Video length is 13:10
