Chicago Newsroom today, tomorrow and Saturday on Chicago Cable...

The Chicago Newsroom show taped on July 16 will be available to Substance readers at CAN TV Chicago and on You Tube. It was fun talking about CPS politics the morning the city learned officially that Rahm Emanuel's latest "Chief Executive Officer" for the city's public schools would be Forrest Claypool.

Ken Davis at Chicago Newsroom.I mentioned briefly earlier that morning (at the Chicago Teachers Pension Fund) that Chicago's corporate media have blacklisted me for more than 15 years. Some of that blacklist (on "public" TV, WTTW) began even before Substance and I were sued for a million dollars by Paul Vallas for "copyright infringement." That lawsuit came after I published some of the ridiculous January 1999 CASE tests in the pages of our old print edition (January 1999) so that everyone could see for themselves how much CPS was wasting money on the frenzy of testing -- and that was 16 years ago.

Even before that, however, WTTW stopped putting me on their show, although during the late 1980s and early 1990s I was regularly the voice from the rank and file and the classroom. Why? Because I would disagree on the facts and analysis with their wealthy heavyweights (most notable Martin Koldyke, who was on the Board of "public television") on the air.

That was the blacklist's beginning. It spread, and eventually we were able to make Harry Potter jokes about it. After 1999, I became the Voldmort of the Sun-Times, Tribune and other corporate outlets. They use Substance information but are not allowed to quote either me or Substance. Happy Bill of Rights and First Amendment, Chicago style. "Citizens United" has always been "Rich People United Against the Truth..." at least here.

Anyway, I'm particularly grateful to Chicago Newsroom because they still put me on the air, although I may not be as nimble as I once was when I was working full time as a CPS teacher.

Chicago Newsroom discussion

Nice job George. Let us be the rational side in the city chaos. Or should it be KAOS? Who is Maxwell Smart?

Eye Opener

Wonderful news program- eye Opener- I was interested in all the topics and George Schmidt clarified the issues. I will start watching Chicago Newsroom regularly.
