Chicago Teachers Union shows solidarity at the Puerto Rican Day parade

Kim and Nate Goldbaum and Rousemary Vega were among those who carried the Chicago Teachers Union's banner at the Puerto Rican Day parade in Chicago on June 20, 2015. Substance photo by Jean Schwab. There were thousands of people at the Puerto Rican Parade in Humboldt Park on Saturday, June 20, 2015, and many of those were from the Chicago Teachers Union. CTU was also marching, passing out flyers, and greeting people. The CTU contingent was small in numbers (maybe 40) parents, children, teachers and students. but what they lacked in numbers was made up with enthusiasm. As CTU came down the street, people became animated with cheers and some people yelled, "Thank You!".

A good day for all.

teacher water cart needed at all parades

I remember a Bud Billikin parade where we didn't have water for the first 2 hours on a hot day until CTU Treasurer James Alexander made a run for some cases. That day we had a float to stash it on, but if there's no float, a teachers book cart with water bottles is a must. I was sorry to hear there was none for teachers and their families at this parade. Next time we'll know.
