Sue Sadlowski Garza declares victory in 10th Ward aldermanic race against Rahm Emanuel's loyalist incumbent John Pope...

Jane Addams Elementary School counselor Sue Sadlowski Garza declared victory with all the votes counted after a long day and night on the evening of April 8, 2015. Garza told supporters she has an 89 vote lead, but her opponent, incumbent alderman John Pope, refused to concede defeat and has waited for the Board of Election Commissioners to count the absentee and provisional ballots on April 9. Garza supporters plan to go to the Board of Election Commissioners headquarters at 89 W. Washington to watch the counting of the provisional ballots, which will take place beginning at 9:00 a.m. on April 9.

The conflicts of interest surrounding Langdon Neal, chairman of the Board of Election Commissioners, have already been widely reported, including the fact that Neal's law firm has received $2.5 million in business from the Chicago Board of Education since Rahm Emanuel was inaugurated mayor in May 2011.

Garza was one of a half dozen Chicago Teachers Union members who declared to run for alderman in wards across Chicago prior to the February 24, 2015 primary election. Two, Garza and 37th Ward candidate Tara Stamps, made it into head-to-head contests against incumbents on April 7. (Stamps lost her bid to replace Emma Mitts in the City Council). All of those who ran have vowed to remain active in city and ward politics.

The 10th Ward, on Chicago's far Southeast Side, is one of four wards where the final results are still waiting for the count of provisional and absentee ballots. In the 35th Ward, incumbent Ray Suarez, an Emanuel loyalist, has refused to concede to Milagros "Millie" Santiago, who leads by more than 100 votes. In the lakefront 43rd Ward, the incumbent is currently behind by a razor thin margin.

Worst spam attack ever... Don't buy those products

This morning when I arrived at substancenews.net, we had been spammed by an entity that posted advertisements for uggs and other products at more than 50 different Substance articles going back to 2008. I deleted 50 of those "comments" and then stopped, because they may go on for longer and longer than I have the time to hit DELETE on each one. My suggestion if anyone goes to that "comment" is that we boycott all the products that are listed in the spam attack. Otherwise, ignore them.
