RAHMWATCH: Start election week(s) with snow, a protest against King High School's tyrants, and our newest song, Rahm's lies, from the songsters of the Southeast Side....
While we continue serving up talent every time we're in a fight, each fights brings out some really creative stuff from our side. So this year the first out of the gate comes from Chicago's Southeast Side (which many people think is "Indiana") and confronts, again, Rahm's lies. But as the snow falls on the beginning of "Election Day) (early voting starts March 23), some history:
Rahm Emanuel and his ruling class backers still believe they can fool the voters of Chicago another time as the April 7 runoff election approaches. The new Party Line of the billionaires is that Chuy "has no plan." That's being barked by the same suburban denizens at the Sun-Times, Tribune, and Crane's who lied, cheated and stole as Rahm's 2011 plan unfolded against the schools, health center, parks, libraries and other public services for Chicago's working class and middle class people.First there was Matt Farmer's pre-election Rahm satirical song "Too Big To Fail" in 2011 (available by a link through a Substance story in Back Issues, February 2011, and still surviving on You Tube). Then during the Chicago Teachers Strike of 2012 Rebel Diaz brought out the immortal "Chicago Teacher" (You Tube URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yN7cRZP58k). That was in 2012.
As Rahm's corporate agenda continued its attacks on the public and public schools in 2013 and 2014, creativity had to go into fighting against the school closings (2013 - 2014) and other atrocities and lies, so we don't have any songs to offer.
But now, in the mayoral runoff of 2015, there is a new contender.
First, a reminder: Substance is not a blog for a reason. We are a news service that does working class news about public education and provides our readers with a class analysis of that. We are pro-union and pro-public schools, anti charter and anti-privatization. And because we have a Website, we sustain the continuing of history so people are reminded of where we've been as part of the road map to where we hope to go.
We always suggest that our friends read BACK ISSUES of Substance to keep perspective on where we are today. How many remember Mary Richardson Lowry and Rufus Williams (two of the slavish servants of the ruling class back then; now long forgotten) or Michael Scott (who was NOT a Martin Luther King Jr. despite the nonsense some people say at Board meetings). And so, today (March 23, 2015) as Election Day begins (yes, early voting begins on March 23 and I'll be voting early so nothing goes wrong on April 7), we have a new song about Rahm's Lies...
