Karen Lewis leads 'Jesus 'Chuy' Garcia for Mayor' election rally of 700 people at the Grand Ballroom on January 24

Surrounded by signs reading "Chuy," more than 700 people, many of them children, participated in a rally for Jesus "Chuy" Garcia at the Grand Ballroom on Cottage Grove Ave. on January 24, 2015. KOCO's (Kenwood Oakland Community Organization's) Jitu Brown was the moderator of the event. "Strong people don't need no leaders," Brown proclaimed. "I want a man from the neighborhood. I want a man who had the boot. I want a mayor that looks in our children's eyes and sees God. I want regular folks taking responsibility in our neighborhoods."

"We need you out everyday talking to your friends and telling them to vote for Chuy. We need to elect someone like us. We have a new govetnor and how do you think he will vote on taking our pensions? If you are not working, you are worthless (to those in power). Children don't work so that is how they look at us."
