OPT OUT 2015: More Than A Score regional meetings to plan for Opt Out 2015

Members of the CORE testing committee met on August 19 and decided to encourage everyone to attend the More Than A Score regional meetings as part of the planning for the 2015 Opt Out work. The meetings are planned for three days during the last days of August: Pilsen, Friday Aug 22nd, 6pm, Harrison Park, 1824 S Wood St,; Wicker Park/West Town/Humboldt Park, Saturday Aug 23rd, 1pm, 1127 N. Oakley Blvd; Hermosa/Humboldt Park/Logan Square Monday Aug 25th, 6:30pm, Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center, 4046 W. Armitage Ave.

The committee members plan to research what has been happening in other cities and take a close look at which tests are the most important for Chicago in the coming year.

Possible actions include:

-Help bring parents to More Than a Score regional meetings

-Have More Than a Score parents come to school meetings/LSC meetings

-CORE post the regional meetings on their website. -Get people to take the PARCC test.

-Pass out test schedule to parents/conversations at LSCs

-Prepare for a workshop on testing at the CORE convention and use it as an organizing meeting. -Create special ed regional meetings and help them know their rights. Help them write IEPs that keep these tests in mind.
