Ames school continues fight with referendum on the March ballot
As readers of Substance know, parents, teacher and children at Ames Middle School in Chicago have continued their fight against the conversion of the school into a "Marine Military Academy," despite the fact that the conversion was approved by a vote of the Board of Education at its December 2013 meeting. Now there is an exciting 16-minute Labor Beat video so that everyone can see the story as well as read about it.
Flanked by dozens of supporters and representing hundreds of community residents and school teachers and children, Ames LSC member Delia Bonilla talked to the Board of Education at the Board's February 26, 2014 meeting. Bonilla read her two-minute remarks in Spanish so that CPS officials couldn't play their usual racist trick, which is to require periodic translation of remarks that are not in English -- and then calling "Time" when the speaker is only half completed.
