MEDIA WATCH: Diane Ravitch a hit on 'The Daily Show' as more and more teachers buy 'Reign of Error' to join growing number of study groups

Two days after Diane Ravitch's "Reign of Error" fell off The New York Times Best Seller List (hardcover books), Ravitch brought her message to Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. As usual, Ravitch presented her lengthy thesis in brief but well informed sound bite form, and Stewart was respectful. Halloween protests in New York City against privatization and charterization used a great deal of humor to make their points against corporate school reformers. At the same time, America's overworked public school teachers are slowly expanding their time commitments during the lengthy and test-crazed school year by organizing study groups in the book. Chicago teachers are initiating that work through CORE (the Caucus of Rank and file Educators), the political group that has led the Chicago Teachers Union since July 2010 and which organized the re-election of Karen Lewis and the CORE slate on May 17, 2013 with 80 percent of the votes.

Historian Diane Ravitch talking with Jon Stewart on a previous show about here previous book, "The Death and Life of the Great American School System" four years ago. As of November 1, 2013, we were unable to find any photographs of her October 30, 2013 appearance on The Daily Show discussing "Reign of Error."CORE members will be meeting with this reporter on November 12 and November 17 after school to read the book, and union officials have been talking up the books studies.
