Bowen small schools; Carpenter; Beidler; Andersen; Schneider and Tilton to end by September 2011? Avondale and Logandale in strange new mixture... Chicago Board of Education schedules hearings on school closings from April 6 through April 11

Masking the realities as much as possible, the Chicago Board of Education on March 28 announced on its website that it would be holding hearings on the proposed closings ("consolidations") of several elementary and high schools at the Board's headquarters at 125 S. Clark St. between April 6 and April 11, 2011.

The hearings are as follows:

Representatives from virtually all of the schools on the surprise 2011 Hit List showed up on March 28, 2011, for the hearings hosted by the Illinois Facilities Task Force at Erie House in Chicago. After leading people to believe that he would not be closing schools during the 2010 - 2011 school year, in early March CPS CEO Terry Mazany announced that he was going to propose the "consolidation" of several schools, claiming economic necessity. safe passage class over crowding

my son is in the 4th grade, and he is a special ed student my son needs to be in a smaller class setting as possible and I feel if you all send our children to marconi its going to be 40-45 students in a classroom my son needs all the help he can get.We have very dedicated teachers at tilton, they go beyond there duties my son teacher works with my son after school and at saturday school, our teachers at tilton are truly for our kids.If the change had to take place why marconi can't come tp tilton our school is a much bettercampus we haVE PUT ALOT of different resources into our school new computer lab, science lab, etc.as to marconi there school isn't half up to tilton standards, marconi doesn't even have a cafeteria there students eat lunch in a gym room in which the ceiling is falling in and in the winter the classrooms are freezing. Why should we want to go backwards we want to move forward. our children shouldn't have to walk 5-7 blocks to mschool thats really putting our kids life in danger look at the drug trafficking they heve to go through at least here at tilton most of our kids are close to home. we have grandparets raising there grandchildren and they shouldn't have to walk to two seperate schools to pick up there kids.AND i'M A HANDICAP parent I'm strongly involved with my son at tilton I'm a member of theLSC, co-chair on the nclb I'm in * out of the school all day everyday if my son have to go to marconi I CAN'T WALK THAT FAR two and three times a day I also babysitt for working mothers who have pk-kind. kids and thats 5 blocks away from my home I walk on a walker.I for one am totally against your consolidation thank you.

Deeply Disturbed About Media Coverage at Bowen Campus Hearing

Over 170 students, parents, teachers, administrators and community representatives came to the CPS hearing on April 6 to support Chicago Discovery Academy. All agreed consolidation of the 320 student independent school into New Millennium (175 students) was a terrible idea. The principal used data to show how New Millennium actually is not the strongest school on the Bowen Campus as CPS falsely presented. Also the LSC parent presented over 1,000 signatures and phone numbers of community members who stated they were against the consolidation. Those proposing the consolidation stated they represented the community's views. However the media (Sun Times, Channel 7 etc.)completely ignored the comments of the students, parents and teachers. No mention was ever made of the three bus loads of well behaved CDA students and parents who came out to support the school. CPS and the media acted as if the event never happened. I know communist and represionist nations kill the news they do not want published. I am embarrassed that the U.S media is for sale and misrepresents history because it is in the pocket of politicians.

Bowen Hearing

Yes, I also was at the Bowen hearing and what you say is true! However, this is CPS and the deed is done! CPS will point to the reversal of their plans to close Tilton to show that CPS is fair. Not! Welcome to the wonderful world of CPS!
